Walk in the Light (2003)

walkinlightCDimageThe first CD from Ernie, this debut release contains 11 songs performed in true Black Gospel style.

The disc features such numbers as He Will Remember Me, made famous by Mahalia Jackson’s rendition at her 1967 Newport Jazz Festival Easter Concert, the stirring You Can’t Make Me Doubt Him by Alex Bradford, composer and director of the famous Abyssinian Baptist Church choir, the traditional spiritual Give Me Jesus, and the classic This Little Light Of Mine.

And it shines with his unique and heartfelt piano and vocal style: equal parts Doctor John, Ray Charles, and Van Morrison.

Walk in the Light is available at all Ottawa CD Warehouse locations, Compact Music, and online through iTunes (click here to download it). You can also email Ernie and have a copy shipped to you directly.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re a person of faith or no faith, whether you’re an atheist or an agnostic or anywhere in between, gospel music just speaks to everybody because it has those common themes of joy, hope and optimism”

Reverend Ernie Cox

The Reverend Ernie Cox has been performing Black Gospel music for many years, both in Ottawa and beyond. He was the opening act for the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and a featured guest artist at the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir Christmas Celebration.

He has performed at the Ottawa Tulip Festival, the Perth Summer Festival, the Gospel Tent at the Ottawa Blues Festival, the National Library Ottawa Folk Festival, the Ottawa Summer Folk Festival, the Black Sheep Inn with Ken Whiteley, and was opening act for blues singer Ray Bonneville at the NAC’s Fourth Stage.

Most recently, Ernie returned to the NAC Fourth Stage for two sold-out headlining concerts — featuring his full band — to celebrate the release of One More Time.
