A Christmas Gospel Celebration at the NAC

October 24, 2010

NAC December 2010 Concerts, Dec 17 & 18

The dates are confirmed! Get ready for two unforgettable evenings of gospel music, just in time for Christmas — December 17th and 18th.

This time, Ernie’s moving up to the larger NAC Studio Hall, as he & his band bring you two evenings of spectacular music, along with a 15-voice choir and horn section. These are two great nights we’re calling a Christmas Gospel Celebration — you’ll be hearing and signing the carols in true gospel style.

These are going to be Ernie’s biggest and best concerts yet — guaranteed to inspire and delight.

Tickets are $30 plus HST and facility fees, bringing them to $36.59.

You can buy them online right here. Sadly there’s an extra fee (of $6.50!) if you buy your tickets online that we couldn’t get around — so if you’re anywhere near downtown, avoid those service charges and just get them at the NAC Box Office instead.

Book early — Ernie’s last two shows completely sold out almost 2 weeks in advance.

More to come!

And an extra-special thanks to everyone who came out for the concerts on February 19 & 20th. The response was phenomenal, and we’re already getting some future dates confirmed so we can do it again. In case you missed them in the lead-up to the release of One More Time, we’ve now got audio files online for Ernie’s CBC Radio One interviews! Both are great, and go quite in-depth on why Ernie plays gospel music, how he got his start, and some of the history and early years of the black gospel tradition.

Here’s Ernie’s interview with In Town & Out‘s Ashley Wright (.m4a, 15.2 megs)

and here’s Ernie talking to All in a Day‘s Alan Neal (.m4a, 7.38 megs)

Ernie in the Ottawa Citizen

ottawa citizen logoSome of you might have seen the article on Ernie and his new CD in the Ottawa Citizen’s arts section on Saturday, but just in case you missed it, we’ve saved an online version right here, too (it’s a .PDF file).

Bruce Ward did a great profile on Ernie’s career, the new disc, and a whole bunch of other good stuff — covering Ernie’s voice, a brief history of gospel music, and some anecdotes from the recording in Montreal.

Down the years, people have asked me how is it a minister can sing the blues. When I sing about lost love, disappointment, cheating, grief and sorrows, I’m not saying that’s prescriptive. I’m saying it’s descriptive of the way life is.

— from the article

The CD is in manufacturing right now, and if all goes well we should have it in our hands on Monday. We’ll do everything we can to get it to local stores ASAP — including CD Warehouse and Compact Music — and it’ll be available for order online, too. Keep checking back, or subscribe to Ernie’s newsletter and get important updates (not too many, just the big ones!) delivered right to your inbox.
